When Growth Starts Feeling Like Disrespect 🚨

A few months ago, I received a call from a representative of a well-known broker in India.
They approached me with an opportunity to become their Authorized Person (AP).
I politely declined.
Not because I didn’t understand the opportunity — but because I was clear about where we stand.
We are Investmentor — a 30-year legacy stock broking firm, built with years of trust, relationships, efforts, and commitments.
So for me, this wasn’t just a business decision - it was about protecting what we’ve built.🔁 The follow-ups didn’t stop.
Calls turned into repeated persuasion.
One day, I was told they were in Ahmedabad and wanted to meet for a casual coffee along with a senior executive visiting from Mumbai.
I clearly mentioned — if the intention was to convince me again, it would be a waste of time.
I was assured it was just a casual interaction. So I agreed.
The reality was different. ⚠️
Within minutes of the meeting, the same discussion began again - Reconsider your business direction. Transition. Join them, etc.
I felt uncomfortable - even slightly insulted - but chose not to react.
Because where I come from, we believe: “Atithi Devo Bhava.” 🙏
Even after the meeting, the follow-ups continued.
Eventually, I had to clearly communicate my stance — that pushing us to rethink a legacy business we’ve built over decades felt unsettling and demotivating.
For a while, it stopped.
⏳Until it didn’t.
Recently, another meeting request came through one of my team members where he was told the agenda was discussion of upcoming IPOs.
I agreed to set up a meeting!
But once again, the same topic came up.
🤔 And that’s when I paused and reflected.
Is this what growth looks like today?
💬 Let’s be HONEST.
Yes, the brokerage industry is competitive.Yes, everyone is chasing expansion.
But at what cost?
📌 Because here’s the reality:
Behind every “small” or “regional” broker & legacy business there is:
Years of hard work & a committed team
Deep client relationships & trust
And countless ups and downs, failures, lessons, and rebuilds
⚡ Repeatedly asking someone to “shift away from” that journey…
Doesn’t feel like opportunity. It feels like disrespect
💡A simple thought: Growth should be collaborative, not dismissive.
If large players truly want to build long-term ecosystems, they need to understand:
👉 Legacy businesses are not “convertible assets” - They are identity, effort, and emotion combined
👉 Clarity matters, Boundaries matter. And most importantly — respect matters
🚀 We’re still building. Still learning. Still growing — one step at a time.
Respect goes both ways. If someone has said no, honor it. If you want a partnership, lead with transparency — not deception. 🤝
💭 What are your thoughts? Is this the right approach in today’s competitive landscape?
